Roll cage update for legendary BMW M1
A BMW M1 competition car is the latest historic racing car to come to Custom Cages to have its original aluminium roll cage replaced with a steel cage that meets the latest safety regulations. Aluminium roll cages, once popular in the US, have long been banned on the basis of providing completely inadequate protection.
Custom Cages engineers developed a unique bolt-in cage that perfectly retains the originality of the car while allowing the owner to compete in current historic events.
Only 456 M1s were built by the Munich company and the car is best remembered for the Procar race series that supported the Grand Prixs. Niki Lauda won the series in 1979 and Nelson Piquet was successful in 1980- the last year of the world's most expensive one-make series.
